Fake Virginia’s posterous

Your pfriend in Northern Virginia

My Question for Bob McDonnell: Why Did You Vote That Way?

Bob McDonnell complains that it's "insulting" if anyone asks him a question about his legislative record or his beliefs on social issues. He says this is nothing but "attacks" on his "character".

Sorry, Bob.

It's not insulting nor is it an attack on your character to ask why you introduced and supported 35 anti-choice bills in the legislature over your 18 yr career AFTER you told us in your thesis this was exactly what you thought should be done. (You're against abortion, even in cases of rape or incest; plus you're against birth control, even for married couples.)

The more I learn about you, the more I am frightened about what rights you will seek to take away from Virginians like me should we elect you to be our governor.

So why won't you answer our questions, Bob?

Frank Rich on Glenn Beck: a Stopped Clock is Right Twice a Day

My favorite part in this op-ed column:

The old G.O.P. Southern strategy is gone with the wind. The more the party is identified with nasty name-calling, freak-show protestors, immigrant-bashing (the proximate cause of Wilson’s outburst at Obama) and, yes, racism, the faster it will commit demographic suicide as America becomes ever younger and more diverse.

Bob McDonnell: a right wing culture warrior wolf in a moderate sheep's clothing.

Bob McDonnell, the GOP nominee for Gov. of Virginia, says his values have "evolved" since he he was 34 years old and wrote his graduate school thesis at Rev. Pat Robertson's Christian Broadcasting Network University -- now Regent University. Yet after he wrote this manifesto of his beliefs on social and cultural issues, he didn't walk away from these views as a legislator. On the contrary, he spend the next 18 years in the legislature pursuing this goals.

Bob McDonnell is a right wing cultural warrior wolf in a moderate sheep's clothing.

I'm not fooled. Are you?

Newt Gingrich Accidentally Names Porn Exec 'Entrepreneur Of The Year'

Actually, I'm surprised Libertarian leaning Gingrich didn't go through with this dinner. (The twice divorced adulterer certainly can't claim with any seriousness that's he's a "Family Values" kind of Republican, so he must be the Libertarian, kind, right?)

Bob McDonnell hasn't "Evolved" on Everything. He's Rabid in His Anti-Abortion Views. Always Has Been. Always Will Be.

Bob McDonnell is not a moderate. He's a right wing extremist.

Read his grad school thesis (http://bit.ly/bobsmanifesto) and its anti-women views and show me how this is different than his legislative record amassed over the last 20 years.

New video: News Coverage of Bob McDonnell's Manfesto for Virginia

Bob McDonnell can run from his record, but he can't hide. I still haven't read or heard what parts of this he no longer believes. He says he's evolved, but how?

And may I point out, what McDonnell wrote in 1989 as a 34 year old man wasn't in the mainstream then either. It was right wing extremism then and it's right wing extremism now.

And regarding his decision to even attend the university founded by Rev. Pat Robertson -- then known as the Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN) University, why would he go there?

McDonnell has embraced his association with Robertson and the right wing school. And do we really need to revisit Robertson's controversial past? Where is the outrage that the GOP has even nominated such a candidate?

Bob McDonnell is not in the mainstream of Virginia or American politics. He's on a crusade to take away your rights to how you live your life. He wants to get into your bedroom and control your sex life; he wants the government to sanction his religious views and discriminate against yours; and he wants you to believe he's a moderate.

There is not ONE think tank or special interest group on the right or the left who ranks McDonnell in the middle of legislators. He's consistently been rated as one of the most conservative right wing elected officials in Richmond.

The only reason he is running away from this thesis is it's 100% aligned with his voting record in Richmond. And that record is NOT in the mainstream -- it's in the extreme right wing of American politics.

Fox News: Ted Who?

With this morning's news that Sen. Ted Kennedy, the most influential senator of the last 50 years, had died, every national and cable network has had saturation coverage except for one.

Fox News Channel's Fox & Friends doesn't deem the death of the nation's third longest serving senator news. Never mind his role in passing civil rights, health care and education laws. Instead, they've had their usual fluff which plagues most of morning television on Fox and their competitors, but virtually nothing on Kennedy's death. (A performance by Jack Ingram was more important to the Fox morning show.)

Why anyone of substance associates themselves with this organization is beyond me.

Bob McDonnell on abortion: "I'd rather not talk about it."

Virginia, If you read one editorial in one newspaper today, read today's Washington Post editorial on Republican Bob McDonnell's reluctance to discuss the topic of abortion in his campaign for Governor against Democratic State Senator Creigh Deeds.

The editorial gets at an intellectual inconsistency that is the hallmark of the GOP. On the one hand, they want to get the government off our backs; on the other hand, they want to get into our bedroom. On the one hand, they believe in Social Security and Medicare; on the other hand they don't want government running healthcare. Etc., Etc., Etc.

Well, I've had enough.

I've had enough of Bob McDonnell trying to fool Virginians into believing that he is some kind of Tom Davis Republican. He is not.

Let's be clear: Bob McDonnell is an idealogue who will use the governorship to go on a personal moral crusade. (And they won't be your morals or mine.)

Why else do you think Rev. Pat Robertson has given McDonnell more money over the years than he has given any other Virginia politician?

Why the stories about Obama's birth certificate will never die

Why so many GOP elected officials are letting the paleoconservatives destroy what's left of their credibility is beyond me.

But if you want to understand why this "issue" will never go away, check out this piece in Salon.
